Louis XVI style mantel clock "Raingo Frères" with cornucopias - Bronze and Marble, 19th century. Maximum dimensions: Length: 27 cm, Height: 37 cm, Depth: 13 cm, circa 1870. Magnificent original mercury gilding with matte and polished finishes, exceptional chasing. Designed by one of the greatest bronze casters of the 19th century. Materials: Blue Turquin marble, cast and gilded bronze, enamel, glass. Complete in its original condition; some models sold have missing parts that are not mentioned. This masterful timepiece, crafted in Blue Turquin marble and chased and gilded bronze, embodies the elegance and refinement of Parisian watchmaking during the Second Empire. A clock of great richness, its molded marble body is enhanced by exquisitely crafted bronze decoration: • Front: A large central bronze appliqué depicts a flaming torch intertwined with ribbons and richly stylized acanthus scrolls. • Sides: Sumptuous cornucopias with fluted channels overflow with generous sheaves of fruit, flowers, and buds, cascading gracefully onto the base. • Top: The clock is crowned by an antique-style vase on a pedestal, its finial depicting a bursting pomegranate. • Details: An elegant beaded frieze highlights the base, while a cavetto molding reinforces the structure. Base and Architecture: The clock rests on an oval marble base with stepped edges, encircled by a gallery of intertwined laurel leaves in gilt bronze. The whole is supported by six toupie feet, ensuring a balanced and majestic silhouette. Dial and Movement • Signatures: The perfectly preserved enamel dial bears the prestigious signature "RAINGO Frères à Paris". • Dial Details: Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, highlighted by slender, openwork, gilded hands. • Protection: Front bezel with a beveled, domed glass set with a row of leaves; flat protective glass on the back. Both glass pieces are in excellent condition. Consider creating a set with candlesticks from our inventory to create a high-quality and unique display. Condition: Superb overall condition with beautiful, original, high-quality gilding, intricate chasing, and bronze with very fine relief and depth. Signs of wear and age (antique item). Minor chips on the marble and tiny losses. Complete original clock with bell, balance wheel, and winding key, in good working order, movement checked, strikes the hours and half-hours. Beautiful chime. Movement stamped Raingo and awarded a medal for its quality. Worldwide shipping, secure packaging, tracking number. Advice provided. Historical note: The Raingo Frères company, active since 1823, was one of the most renowned bronze casters and clockmakers of the 19th century, notably supplying the imperial family and the major European courts. The Raingo Frères company won numerous medals at the Universal Exhibitions (London 1862 and Paris in 1867, 1878, and 1889). The works of the Raingo brothers can be found in various museums, including the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris, the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, the Pezzoli Museum in Milan, and the Royal Palace of Madrid. The Raingo brothers quickly gained recognition for their bronzes. Indeed, the Raingo brothers, initially known as watchmakers, added bronze art and furniture pieces to their catalog. From 1860 onwards, the House of Raingo created remarkable pieces for Emperor and Empress Eugénie, a collection that can be admired today at the Louvre. The Raingo brothers produced works based on antique designs and, later, created smaller versions of works by contemporary artists such as Pradier, Carrier-Belleuse, and Auguste Moreau.
