Magnificent pair of finely chased and gilded bronze andirons in the Louis XVI style, dating from the Napoleon III period (circa 1860). Provenance: Château Private Collection.
Architecture and Decoration
Each piece adopts a neoclassical terminal structure, topped by an elegant antique-style covered pot. The lid is adorned with a flower bud, laurel wreath and acanthus leaves. The body of the vase is adorned with large drooping sprays of oak leaves and acorns, all resting on a pedestal.The base, richly embossed with numerous projections, is decorated with canals and an interlaced molding punctuated with buttons. At its center, a rosette with swirling acanthus leaves blossoms.
Quality and Condition
- Manufacture: High-quality assembly. The casting is precise and the chasing, both firm and delicate, testifies to great craftsmanship.
- Gilding: Bright, original gilding.
- Condition : Very good overall condition. A few natural signs of use attest to their age (patina of time).
