Original 19th-century gilding. Complete.

Gilded bronze wall sconce in architectural style:
This model features three volute-shaped arms, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, rings, and fluting. They are topped with beaded bowls, draped finials, and fixed lampshades in the form of laurel wreaths, all magnificently chiseled and embellished with stylized acanthus leaves.
On the lower section, slender and elegant stylized acanthus leaves intertwine to form the branches. The central section rises as a richly decorated shaft shaped like a twisted cornucopia, from which emerges a superb floral and foliage bouquet composed of buds, grapes, and both burst and unopened pomegranates.
The top section, meanwhile, features a drapery motif and is topped by a wide knotted ribbon surmounted by a flat button. The piece as a whole is distinguished by very rich moldings and chiseling of great finesse.

The same style of model can be found at the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris, in Madame Nélie Jacquemart’s bedroom (2 branches), as well as in various museums in France and Europe. Wall sconces of the same style, with three branches, are on display at the Imperial Palace of Pavlovsk in Russia. Another pair is housed at the Château de Moncley (Doubs) and elsewhere.

The Cornucopia is a well-known symbol of abundance, fecundity, fertility, and joy. Cornucopias are very frequently depicted on ancient coins in general and on Roman coins in particular. Some ancient authors identified the cornucopia as the horn of Amalthea, the goat who nursed the infant Jupiter.
