Panel Of Maffrash Karabakh - Armenia. Circa 1900. 100 X 60 Cm
Exquisite Karabakh Maffrash panel originating from Armenia in the Caucasus. Maffrash are the largest carrying bags used by the nomadic populations of Persia and the Caucasus. This fragment is one of two large panels that once faced each other. The technique is Sumak, wool on wool. The work on the motifs demonstrates exceptional dexterity. These motifs appear sculpted from the material itself. The dyes are exclusively plant-based, resulting in beautiful depth and luminosity. The piece is in a state of preservation that is almost miraculous. Circa 1900 or earlier. Dimensions: 100 x 60 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
