Magnificent Kazakh Caucasian rug. Woven and knotted wool on wool in the traditional manner. The quality of antique Caucasian rugs is immediately recognizable upon touch. The knotted pile is light, supple, and fine. It is rather short, offering exceptional softness and comfort. The colors are sublime, deep, and luminous, primarily in shades of blue, bottle green, and madder red. The design is typical, with four large medallions in the central field surrounded by magnificent borders with colorful patterns. Dated 1904. Very good condition, with some discreet wear.
