Canteen Barrel From The First French Empire
A canteen from the French First Empire. This small wooden barrel measures approximately 24.5 cm long and 11 cm wide at its center. Painted white, it shows traces of red and blue at the ends, the national colors. A laurel wreath is visible in the center of the barrel, but unfortunately, all traces of the regimental number, the revolutionary fasces, and the Phrygian cap have disappeared. The brass rings are later replacements; those at the ends are missing, as is the small tap that allowed it to be closed. The body of the barrel has some cracks, and the paint is worn and crazing, but the object remains attractive.
