Infantry Drum Case. Revolution / First Empire. France.
Artist: Révolution / Premier Empire.
Case consisting of a two-hoop barrel, a small rolling hoop, the soundboard, the strings, and the tension rods.
The brass shell features a brass strike plate at the bottom with two Fleur-de-Lys-shaped stamps and an iron screw with an iron nut, designed to tighten the head onto the bottom plate. On the side opposite this strike plate is a steel hook designed to secure the end of the drumhead.
Large drum hoops made of ash wood, drilled with 10 holes spaced at equal intervals. The outer surface is finished with a tricolor lacquer.
The drumhead is made of parchment-treated calfskin.
The ropes used to tension the drumhead are laced in a zigzag pattern around the shell, passing through the holes in the hoops (ropes have been replaced).
The white buffalo leather pull tabs serve as sliders for tightening the lacing.
In good condition.
