"waterloo 1815" Ice Cream Mold
A Victorian-era copper ice mold in the shape of a "bomb," evoking the Battle of Waterloo. It was likely made for the 50th anniversary of the battle: the front bears the engraved inscription “WATERLOO June 18 1815,” surmounted by a seated angel, with the name “WELINGTON” inscribed above it. The mold was lined with ice along the edges, while the center was filled with fruit, chocolate, or other ingredients; when served, the central contents were revealed—hence the term “ice cream bomb.” A beautiful piece that has retained its lid.
