English George III Regency Period - Bow Front Chest Of Drawers - Mahogany Veneer, 19th Century

English George III / Regency period bow-front chest of drawers in mahogany veneer, 19th century

A ceremonial chest of drawers with a curved front, the so-called “bow-front” model, typical of British cabinetmaking from the early 19th century. English work from the end of the George III period or the beginning of the Regency period, dated to the first quarter of the 19th century.

Constructed in solid wood (hardwood and softwood) and covered with a fine wood veneer, identified as mahogany with a flamed grain laid horizontally. Rough-sawn back panel showing old reddish pigmentation. Traditional construction, with drawer joints assembled using hand-cut dovetails.

The piece opens at the front with three drawers of decreasing height. The lower section is emphasized by a shaped plinth extending into splayed bracket feet.

Restrained, geometric ornamentation highlighted by fine light-wood stringing outlining the edge of the top. The drawers are fitted with circular metal knob handles with a dark patina and stamped radiating decoration. Inset brass escutcheons.

Overall condition is very satisfactory. The piece is perfectly stable. The top shows surface scratches from use, slight discoloration, and marks consistent with age. Some veneer losses and old restorations are visible along the edges and the lower rail. Keys are missing.
