Scottish Mahogany Chest Of Drawers, Side-height Chest, Hat Drawer, Scotland, 19th Century
An imposing Scottish chest of drawers, built to a wall height in mahogany and mahogany veneer, dating from the second half of the 19th century. Rare on the market, this chest boasts impressive dimensions, including a wall height of 1.24 meters. This piece of furniture was intended for a clientele of gentlemen, as the second drawer from the top was designed to hold top hats (see photo 9). The chest's elegant, sculpted front features clean, elegant lines. The absence of handles on the two upper drawers (which open using concealed handles beneath them) lends a light and understated elegance to the piece, highlighting its curves and the beautiful variations in the mahogany's color. Three more drawers, these with mahogany handles and all of different sizes, complete the set. These 3 drawers are flanked by two twisted columns positioned in a projecting position. This piece is in superb condition and has retained a beautiful, glossy patina. We note some minor wear and repairs, particularly on the sides of the piece (see photo 6: fine cracks on the sides of the top, a small repair on the back of one of the side plinths...). This wear is, of course, entirely normal given the use and age of this exceptional piece.
