Heinrich Aldegrever was born around 1502 in Paderborn, Germany, and died inSoest around 1559. A talented engraver and also a painter, he was part of thegroup known as the "Little Masters" (Kleinmeister),recognized for his exceptional ability to create very small engravings with anabundance of precise details. His early engraved works were heavily influencedby Albrecht Dürer. Even his monogram, featuring the letters "AG," maybe a tribute to the master of Nuremberg, whose monogram bore the letters"AD."
