Paul émile Lecomte - The Fourges Mill
Artist: Paul Emile Lecomte (1877-1950)
Large watercolor by Paul-Émile Lecomte depicting the mill at Fourges in the Eure department.
Dimensions: 49 x 64 cm.
Provenance: sale of the Lecomte studio.
Paul-Émile Lecomte was born in Paris in 1877. A student of Cormon, he exhibited at the Salon from 1911. A skilled draftsman, Lecomte was also a fine colorist. Water is the principal element in his work, and he perfectly mastered its variations, creating a style very close to that of his contemporary Louis Aston Knight (1873-1948). Consequently, he was quite logically appointed official painter of the Navy in 1921.
All the painter's qualities—softness of color, rendering of water, and quality of line—are thus summarized in this large view of the mill at Fourges (Eure).
