Artist: Jean Thomas (1923-2019)
Oil on canvas by Jean Thomas depicting a view from above Honfleur, painted on October 31, 1971.

Dimensions: 40 x 80 cm.
Jean Thomas (1923-2019) was a poet, illustrator, painter, art critic, professor of contemporary art history at the Sorbonne, and professor of visual arts at the École Normale d'Auteuil. His realistic aesthetic earned him numerous international awards (Japan, United States) and is as impressive as his mastery of color. From 1955 onward, Jean Thomas focused on landscape painting, which he now depicted with a highly personal style, producing representations of almost photographic precision. Through a meticulous study of light and masterful painting technique, his works bear witness to a movement: post-war realist landscapes. A professional painter, Jean Thomas exhibited extensively in Paris (Galerie d'art de la Place Beauvau, Galerie de la Tournelle), throughout France, and abroad, from Tokyo to Florence and Brussels. He also participated in group exhibitions in Puteaux and Suresnes, a hub for young artists of the time. His works are held in public collections, notably at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
