Alfred Dunet - Violets And Muscat Bottle
Artist: Alfred Dunet (1889-1939)
Still Life by Alfred Dunet (1889-1939) depicting Violets and a Bottle of Muscat, ca. 1920.
Gouache on cardboard, framed.
Dimensions: artwork: 33 x 26 cm; frame: 38.5 x 31 cm.
An atypical painter classified among the Rouen School, Dunet studied under Philippe Zacharie, like many of his colleagues, and exhibited in Rouen at Legrip's gallery and at Druet's gallery in Paris alongside Van Dongen and Gernez in 1922. He moved there the same year, as did his friends Pierre Dumont and Pierre Hodé. His painting, concerned with geometry, is imbued with a melancholic poetry, sometimes tinged with strangeness, reminiscent of the German painters of the New Objectivity movement.
