The painter addressed this subject on several occasions, but this painting dates from early in his career, as evidenced by the signature “Louis J. Vigon,” which would later change to “L.J. Vigon.” Here, he employs an Expressionist technique and uses strong highlights reminiscent of the streets of Rouen painted by Adrien Segers.
