Jean Levasseur attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre and held his first solo exhibition in 1964. Starting in 1965, he painted daily and became a member of the Artistes Français in 1970. In 1977, he decided to devote his life to painting, gave up his other activities, and built a studio in his home in Saint-Aubin-de-Crétot.

A founding member of the AYAC (Association Yvetotaise des Artistes Cauchois) in 1978, he participated in numerous exhibitions. His works attracted the attention of galleries, and he was notably featured in 1991 at Dugast in Paris. Awards, medals, and certificates of honor have piled up. His paintings appeal to buyers in France and abroad.

“Jean Levasseur shares with the Normandy region an authenticity that he brings to life through a style as rich as it is subtle,” says journalist Thierry Snydka of him. His colleague from Le Havre, Daniel Fleury, writes: “He roams the Pays de Caux and draws inspiration from everything that makes our region so rich: the beauty of this chalk plateau, the lush grass, and the overwhelming power of the sea as it crashes against the high walls of our fields.”
