Jean Thomas (1923-2019) was a poet, illustrator, painter, art critic, professor of contemporary art history at La Sorbonne and of visual arts at L'école Normale d'Auteuil. His realistic aesthetic has won him numerous international awards (Japan, USA) and is as impressive as his mastery of color.
From 1955 onwards, Jean Thomas turned to landscapes, which he now depicts with a highly personal style, delivering representations of near-photographic precision. Through a precise study of light and great pictorial mastery, his works bear witness to a current: post-war realist landscapes.
A painter by trade, Jean Thomas has exhibited on several occasions in Paris (Galerie d'art de la Place Beauvau, Galerie de la Tournelle), across France and abroad, from Tokyo to Florence and Brussels. He also took part in group shows in Puteaux and Suresnes, a breeding ground for all the young artists of the time. His work can be found in public collections, including the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris.
