Joseph Delattre - Loops Of The Seine
Artist: Joseph Delattre (1858-1912)
A graphite drawing by Joseph Delattre depicting the meanders of the Seine.
Dimensions: 11 x 20 cm.
One of the four musketeers of the Rouen School, Delattre (1858-1912), weary of the institution, founded the Free Academy of Painting in 1896. By teaching outdoors, he had a lasting influence on all the Rouen masters, such as Dumont, Guilbert, and Louvrier. Many painters frequented his studio, including Camille Pissarro, who said of him: "He's an enthusiast who has seemed to be mocked here, and who, in short, is the only one with a discerning eye." From 1902 onward, he settled in Petit-Couronne and concentrated his work on the banks of the Seine. This is the case with this remarkably fine graphite drawing.
