"The banks of Lake Annecy"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,

Beautiful work by the painter, Georges Paul Leroux, which represents a view of the banks of Lake Annecy, perhaps from Talloires with a view of the Entrevernes mountains.
Between 1940 and 1945 the artist lived in the suburbs of Lyon, he spent many stays on the banks of Lake Annecy and produced a series of paintings.
In a unique and extremely classical style, Georges Leroux wonderfully reproduces the atmosphere and the play of light of the places they represent.

After many successes at the School, Georges Leroux won the second Grand Prix de Rome in 1904, then the Grand Prix de Rome in 1906 with "The Family in Antiquity".
He left for Rome where he was a boarder at the Villa Medici from January 1907 to December 1909. From this stay he retained a deep attachment to Italy. He returned there almost every year to paint the Roman countryside, Tuscany, Umbria, Florence, etc. His travels took him as far as Sicily.
He was elected a member of the Institut de France on November 26, 1932.
In January 1935, he was appointed professor of imitation drawing at the École Polytechnique.
In 1940, the École Polytechnique having withdrawn to Lyon, he settled in the suburbs of Lyon. It was during this period that he spent many vacations on the shores of Lake Annecy, where he made some very beautiful paintings. He returned to Paris in 1943.
In 1945, Georges Leroux became president of the Institut. He then bought a house in Meudon. He stayed there until the end of his days. He painted the surroundings of Meudon, many still lifes.
In 1951, he returned to Italy one last time. The fruit of his work decorated the living room of the Italian Embassy in Paris.
In 1956, he received from the hands of the Italian Ambassador in Paris, the insignia of Commander of the Order "Al Merito Della Repubblica".

His works are today preserved in many museums in France: Paris, Lyon, Annecy, Best, Dijon... and abroad: London, Los Angeles, Rome.
