A beautiful, finely detailed work by the Aix-en-Provence painter Louis Gautier, depicting a rare view of Rue de la Molle in Aix-en-Provence. The artist has represented the Pavillon Vendôme on the left side of the street, owned by Henri Dobler from 1906 until his death in 1941, before being bequeathed to the City. Today, the building is a museum and exhibition space, notably hosting the Cézanne exhibition in 2025.
Rue de la Molle is located 500 meters from Villa Acanthe, where the artist Louis Gautier lived and had his studio.

A student of Cabanel, Louis François Gautier exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1884 and participated in regional exhibitions in Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Marseille, and Montpellier. He was commissioned to decorate the town hall and the theater in Aix-en-Provence.
In 1894, with the painter Édouard Ducros, he founded the Société des Amis des Arts d'Aix (Society of Friends of the Arts of Aix), and then, in 1901, an ethnographic museum. He is also known as one of the fiercest opponents of the painter Paul Cézanne.
His works are held in collections including the Musée Granet.

Dimensions: 17 x 9 cm unframed and 20 x 12.5 cm with its original giltwood frame.

We are pleased to announce the publication of a book dedicated to the artist: "Louis Gautier (1855-1947) Painter of the Villa Acantha," in which more than 120 works are reproduced.
