"Busy Street in the Mediterranean"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,

A beautiful, luminous work by the painter Louis Bonamici depicting a bustling street, most likely in Spain or Greece—countries the artist visited and painted during his travels. In the foreground, on either side, we can see a woman sitting in the shade under the town’s portico and an orange seller. The middle ground offers a view of the interior of this town with its white facades.
Through the colors and the play of light, one can feel the intense heat of this town in summer.
This work is a beautiful testament to local life on the shores of the Mediterranean in the first half of the 20th century.

A master of painting with a palette knife, Louis Bonamici strives to capture the warm colors of Provence through scenes of harbours and daily life.
His works are executed in a harmonious blend of vivid colors; his thick application of paint gives his works depth, compelling viewers to step back to fully appreciate them.
He was appointed Official Painter to the Navy in 1921.

Dimensions: 38 x 46 cm unframed and 64 x 56 cm with a modern cream and gold wooden frame.
