Beautiful work by the Avignon painter Joseph Hurard which depicts fishermen in a tartane at the Pointe du Brescon in Martigues. The artist used a brightly colored palette and played on contrasts to represent the nuances of color on a summer day.
A student of Pierre Grivolas and Charles Vionnet in Avignon, Joseph Hurard exhibited numerous landscapes at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914, notably of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. He joined the Group of Thirteen founded by Clément Brun. After the First World War, he exhibited in galleries in Marseille.
In 1932, he settled in Martigues. site he has been painting since 1913.
Dimensions: 35 x 55 cm without its frame and 46 x 66 cm with its original wooden frame.
