This charming work by the Nice-born painter Maurice La Bany depicts an alleyway bustling with women mending fishing nets at the end of the day, most likely in the Ponche fishing district of Saint-Tropez.
Originally from Nice, Maurice La Bany studied under Léon Bonnat at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He primarily painted landscapes of the French Riviera, including Nice and Saint-Tropez.
A painter, Maurice La Bany was also a tenor.
Dimensions: 34.5 x 27 cm unframed and 44 x 36.5 cm with its original giltwood frame.
