"The Suns - Bouquet of Sunflowers"
Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right.
A beautiful work by the painter Serge Mendjisky depicting a bouquet of sunflowers in a vase, most likely created while the artist was living in Saint Paul de Vence.
The artist uses a vibrant color palette to capture the summer light symbolized by the sunflowers, which the artist calls "the suns." For the artist, light is something that cannot be reproduced but must be represented by something else, by color...
Born in 1929 in Paris, Serge Mendjisky was introduced to the world of art in his childhood, thanks to his father, a painter of the School of Paris. From a young age, he associated with painters such as Kisling, Foujita, Soutine, Derain, Kikoin, Dunoyer de Segonzac, and Picasso.
The Second World War marked a turning point in the artist's life; his mother was arrested. His father joined the Resistance, his older brother was executed in 1942, and Serge Mendjisky found himself alone in Paris, left to his own devices.
To support himself, he worked as a dockworker at the Bercy train station, which also became involved in the Resistance.
Serge Mendjisky is an accomplished artist: painter, sculptor, photographer, mosaicist...
For 40 years, the artist devoted himself to Divisionist painting before turning, in the early 2000s, to macrophotography to revisit the codes of Pop Art. He gives photography a pictorial dimension.
The painter André Dunoyer de Segonzac, who met the painter Paul Signac in 1908, declared that he "saw the Neo-Impressionist School reborn with a gifted young painter (Serge Mendjisky) whose personal talent rediscovers the Art of Divisionism and reconnects with its tradition."
A renowned artist worldwide, he exhibits in Europe, Japan, and the United States.
Dimensions: 41 x 27 cm unframed and 61.5 x 47.5 cm with its beautiful modern Montparnasse wooden frame (5 kg!).
