An elegant rectangular box crafted from precious and fruitwood, featuring a remarkable geometric marquetry veneer on the lid. The decoration consists of lozenge and triangular reserves forming a radiating motif typical of late 17th-century decorative style. The box opens with a hinged lid, revealing an interior divided into two compartments. The interior is made of natural wood, displaying a beautiful patina of age. The front retains its original keyhole escutcheon, while the sides feature patinated metal handles for easy transport. The entire piece possesses a warm and even patina, attesting to its age. The antique fittings and the box's structure date from the Louis XIV period. This type of box was intended for storing valuable documents, jewelry, coins, or personal belongings.
