Louis XV Style Bombé Commode, 18th Century
An elegant Louis XV commode, curved on all sides, dating from the 18th century, richly inlaid throughout. The front features four drawers in three rows, including two small upper drawers, highlighted by superb handles and keyhole escutcheons in finely chased gilt bronze. The front and sides display geometric marquetry in precious wood veneer, forming large decorative panels that showcase the natural grain of the wood. The sides, also inlaid, demonstrate particularly meticulous craftsmanship, characteristic of fine 18th-century furniture. The commode rests on four cabriole legs adorned with gilt bronze sabots and mounts, terminating in a foliate motif typical of the Louis XV style. The top is crowned with a molded, veined red marble slab, from the period, perfectly complementing the flowing lines of the piece. Of note is the presence of a false drawer in the upper rail, a refined and sought-after feature in Louis XV furniture.
