Artist: Satsuma
A covered Satsuma earthenware vase. Japan, Meiji period. This small earthenware vase is covered with a crackled cream glaze and polychrome enamels in the typical Satsuma style palette, with gilt details and a decoration of a Shinto priest's cap and stylized flowers. In good condition, it measures 115 cm in height. The artist's mark, painted in black on the underside, is a three-character inscription. It reads: "Japan, kilns probably from Kyoto, Meiji or Taisho period, early 20th century." Identifying the artist would allow for precise dating.
