Green Glazed Earthenware Oil Lamp. Morocco, 19th Century.
An interesting earthenware oil lamp covered with a thick green lead glaze. Its bold shape and beautiful aesthetic have allowed it to survive the test of time undamaged. Although similar but much older lamps exist in Muslim Andalusia and as far back as medieval Fatimid Egypt, the form of this one is closer to those produced in Morocco in the 19th century. A good size at 255mm, with a beautiful thick glaze of a lovely green, and no repairs, it is a very fine example of its kind.
