"Hanadome Porcelain In The Makuzu Kozan Style. Japan, Circa 1900."
A rare hard-paste porcelain Hanadome (flower frog) depicting a pair of pheasants on a rock, glazed in the style of Makuzu Kozan. No signature or maker's mark. Ikebana (the art of flower arranging) sometimes used Hanadome during the Meiji period. We have never seen any earlier than this period. This small Hanadome would have been placed in a shallow dish filled with water for fresh flowers or simply set on its side for dried plants. It is a charming and very rare object. Perfect condition. Height 158mm. Late 19th/early 20th century.
