Porcelain bowl, decorated on the inside with a Buddhist lion painted in cobalt blue; the outside is decorated with red and yellow glazed flowers. A large amount of sand adheres to the foot, indicating that it was fired on sand. The glazes are damaged, likely due to an excessively high firing temperature rather than prolonged exposure to seawater in the holds of a sunken ship. There is a large crack. Probably Chinese work intended for export, but possibly Vietnamese. 16th century.
