Art Nouveau Marquetry Tray – Chestnut Wood Decoration – In The Style Of Gallé Or Majorelle
Artist: Dans Le Goût De Gallé
A charming Art Nouveau serving tray, circa 1900–1910, adorned with an elegant naturalistic design of chestnut leaves and husks. The marquetry, with its flowing, sinuous lines, is in keeping with the style of great French Art Nouveau productions, evoking the spirit of the workshops of Émile Gallé or Louis Majorelle, although this particular piece is neither signed nor attributable to these houses. The tray features a warm, luminous background, embellished with contrasting wood species forming a stylized vegetal border typical of the turn of the century. The treatment of the motif, naturalistic yet rhythmic, fully reflects the 1900s aesthetic. The gently curved side supports have integrated handles for easy serving. An anonymous but appealing piece, representative of the enthusiasm for botanical motifs in furniture and decorative arts during the Belle Époque. Good overall condition. Minor signs of wear consistent with age. The marquetry is well-maintained, and the structure is sound.
