"Pair Of Votive Oil Lamps, Zoomorphic Base In Patinated Bronze Neo-pompeian Style From The 19th Century."
An elegant decorative ensemble in patinated bronze, in the Pompeian style, made in the 19th century and inspired by antique models unearthed during the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The stand consists of a tripod base with lion's paw feet, surmounted by a tortoise carrying a graceful wading bird (heron/ibis), whose neck and beak serve as attachment points for two metal brackets. Chains support two bronze votive lamps, each adorned with a chrismon (☧), a Christian symbol from the early centuries. The ensemble forms a sculptural and balanced piece, reminiscent of the aesthetics of Roman votive lamps and pendants. The uniform green patina contributes to its historicist charm, typical of the second half of the 19th century.
