On the oval plate, adorned with a frieze of ribbons, the knocker is shaped like the eagle's tail feathers. Early 20th century. Good condition. Some minor enamel chips. Height: 11 cm. Width: 11.5 cm. Depth: 2 cm. Since 1782, the motto “E Pluribus Unum” has appeared on the Great Seal of the United States. Literally “one among many,” it is related to the motto “unity is strength.” The Founding Fathers wanted a symbol that represented the strength and independence of the new country. They therefore chose the bald eagle, a symbol of liberty, patriotism, and power.
