Aiguille Case In Sculptted Wood - Prisoner Turning - XIXth Century
Beautiful needle case in finely turned and carved boxwood, featuring remarkable "prison" turning work, characterized by its movable rings and openwork spiral structure.
The decoration combines geometric and stylized motifs, with alternating turned, guilloché and finely chased registers. The small domed ends are adorned with raised pastilles and stippled decoration, typical of 19th-century folk art productions.
This type of object, both utilitarian and demonstrative of the turner's skill, was often made as a virtuoso piece.
Very good condition, with a warm, even antique patina.
Complete and functional object.
