19th Century Kadjar Travel Pencil Case.
A lacquered papier-mâché chest, richly painted with polychrome and gold decoration on a black background. Within a cartouche outlined in gold, a hunting scene depicts four horsemen against a rich, hilly, wooded landscape of various tree species. Two of them are tracking abundant game while the other two are hunting a lion. The decoration is very elaborate on all sides. The interior and underside are lacquered black with gold trim. Signed inside the drawer. Iran. Early 19th century. In good condition. Length: 18.5 cm. Width: 4 cm. Height: 3 cm.
