Snuffbox With Sculpted Relief Decoration.
A corozo nut with richly and finely carved decoration on both sides. The hinged lid depicts a couple of dancers against a background of wind instruments. The front face shows an elegant woman in a long dress against a checkered background. The sides are decorated with geometric patterns and stylized flowers. On both sides, the figures rest on a corbel. The entire piece features strong relief carving. English work. Early 19th century. Very good condition except for a small, old imperfection (perhaps from the making) on the dancer's hat. Length: 8 cm. Width: 4 cm. Depth: 4 cm.
