Suzani Hanging From Tashkent With Oï Palak Embroidery - Uzbekistan Circa 1900
Circa 1900, Uzbekistan. Large Suzani tapestry in cotton embroidered with silk thread, originating from Tashkent and dating from the late 19th century. This Suzani, known as Oi Palak, features a design of haloed moons and is embroidered in Basma stitch, also known as Bukhara stitch, with large raspberry-red circles and vegetal borders framing all four sides. The quality of the vegetable dyes and the antique cotton, sewn in five pieces, indicate that this Suzani is very old. A few minor restorations and micro-stains are noted (see the last 5 photos). No major flaws. Beautiful condition and vibrant colors! Dimensions: approximately 220 cm x 160 cm.
