"Avranches Butterfly Headdress In Embroidered Tulle And Ribbon - Normandy Circa 1850/1900"
Second half of the 19th century France Normandy Spectacular Traditional headdress called Papillon d'Avranches in embroidered tulle and ribbon from Normandy. Tulle background embroidered with floral branches. Side wings, in pleated tulle, embroidered, and applied with white cotton lace held by an iron frame. Surmounted by a hot air balloon chimney and adorned with a large ribbon bow in parma silk moire finely gouache by hand. Conical bottom in sky blue cardboard held by four hairpins in copper pompom with faceted heads. Beautiful testimony of Norman headdress, probably pampered, washed and reconstituted during the first half of the 20th century with its original period elements. Clean, starched, a few very rare gaps in the tulle that are difficult to see. Good condition of color and preservation. Dimensions: Height 45 cm Width amplitude 72 cm.
