Wallet In Moiré Silk Faille Embroidered With Chinoiserie Designs - France Circa 1780
Circa 1780, France. A precious wallet in black moiré silk faille, very finely embroidered in Beauvais stitch, dating from the Louis XVI period. Polychrome silk embroidery with a naturalistic floral design and a chinoiserie scene in the center. The wallet has two flaps and four interior compartments, lined with pink silk moiré. There are very slight losses to the embroidery of the Chinese figures on a swing, and some fraying at the central fold of the wallet; these are the only flaws to note. Good condition overall. Dimensions: 18 cm x 12 cm closed, 18 cm x 25 cm open.
