JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). KABUTO composed of 12 strips of matte black lacquered wrought iron. THEHEN NO ANA (opening at the top) in patinated and gilded copper with five steps. SHIKORO (neck guard) with four steps in brown and gold lacquer and yellow silk braid (slight wear). FUKIGAESHI (small wings) in black lacquered wrought iron covered with stamped deerskin leather (wear), yellow silk braid, and a gilded copper mon of the Shimazu clan. MABI SA SHI (visor) in matte black lacquered wrought iron. MAEDATE in cut copper depicting a crescent moon. Dimensions: 18 x 37 x 34 cm. Sold with the base. Dimensions with the base: 47 x 37 x 34 cm.
