JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Samurai Wakizashi. FUSHI and KASHIRA in a set, in chased, patinated, and gilded copper, decorated with five monkeys perched on a nanako background. TSUKA in wood covered with ray skin and navy blue silk braid. MENUKI in chased, patinated, and gilded copper depicting millet. KOZUKA in chased, patinated, and gilded copper depicting the attributes of the gods of good fortune on a nanako background, the blade signed. TSUBA maru-gata in wrought iron, openwork and chased in the namban style. SAYA in wood and glossy black lacquer, decorated with the mon of the Kii clan. Simple HABAKI in silvered copper decorated with oblique striations. Straight blade, regular, straight, and well-defined hamon, the tang pierced once, signed OITEGOSHU KANEMASA. Sold with stand.
