Ancient Vietnamese Indo-chinese Laughing Buddha In Polished Bronze (phật Di Lặc), 19th Century

Antique Vietnamese bronze figure representing Budai, the Laughing Buddha, cast in polished bronze and dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.

The figure is finely modelled with a joyful smiling expression, exposed belly symbolising abundance and contentment, and flowing monk’s robes decorated with incised linear patterns. One hand is extended in a gesture of generosity, while the other holds prayer beads, traditional attributes associated with prosperity and happiness.

The surface retains a warm polished bronze tone with natural oxidation and wear consistent with age. The modelling, engraved robe decoration, and overall softness of form are characteristic of Vietnamese bronze devotional sculpture of this period.

A substantial example, likely intended for a household shrine or small temple setting rather than decorative export.

Height: 30 cm.

Good condition, with honest surface wear and patina. No visible breaks or repairs.
