Antique Indian Solid Silver Miniature Hindu God Bal Krishna Crawling, C19th

A fine and rare antique Indian solid silver miniature depicting Bal Krishna, shown in his characteristic crawling pose.

The figure represents Krishna in his infant form, known as Bal Krishna or Bal Gopal, a popular devotional subject symbolising divine childhood, innocence, and playfulness. He is portrayed advancing on his hands and knees, with one arm extended forward, wearing a stylised headdress and adorned with a richly detailed chest ornament, reflecting his divine status.

Despite its very small size, the figure is finely cast and carefully finished, with pleasing detail to the face, costume, and posture. The compact scale and intimate nature of the piece suggest it was intended for personal devotional use, possibly as part of a domestic shrine or as a small votive object.

Silver examples of Bal Krishna in this miniature format are relatively uncommon compared to the more usual bronze or brass figures, making this an appealing and unusual collector’s piece.
