"A Beautiful Watercolor Depicting An Italian Peasant Woman In Traditional Costume."
A beautiful watercolor drawing depicting an Italian peasant woman in traditional dress. She is resting, seated on a bench with her back to the wall, her right hand resting on the handle of a copper bucket. This is both a classic representation of 19th-century painting and one of those genre scenes that the painter Adolfo Scarselli, born in Florence in 1866 and died in the same city in 1945, masterfully captured. Painted in watercolor on vellum paper in 1894, it masterfully conveys the beauty of its subject, the naturalness of her pose (note the cast shadow that reveals the wall against which the woman leans), the beauty of her costume, and her gaze, which seems drawn to something unseen, just beyond the frame. This drawing is presented in a very fine, antique, figured walnut frame that enhances its beauty. There are a few very light foxing spots.
