Armchair From The Château De Neuilly, After A Model By Jacob-desmalter, Circa 1804-1815
Artist: Jacob-desmalter
Armchair from the Château de Neuilly, based on a model by Jacob-Desmalter, circa 1804-1815, similar to the gilded wood model of a series of 6 furnishing Empress Josephine's bedroom at Malmaison, but actually delivered in 1810 for the bedroom in Empress Marie-Louise's petits appartements at the Tuileries Palace.
In molded and carved varnished mahogany, turned and ringed front legs. Sabre-shaped back legs. Plain square belt, basket-handle front. Baluster-turned armrests topped by a fleuron, round armrests without cuff connecting to the back by a scroll topped by a palmette.
This chair was probably part of the furnishings of the Château de Neuilly for Prince Joachim Murat (1767-1815), who acquired it on March 4, 1804. On his departure for Naples in 1808, the prince ceded the fully furnished Château de Neuilly to the Crown. Shortly after his return from emigration in 1818, the Duc d'Orléans, future King Louis-Philippe, purchased the Château de Neuilly with all its furnishings.
Iron mark: L.P. for Louis-Philippe, circa 1830 and probably the N. de Neuilly under crown, inventory numbers: 24 - 72 - 152 - 8453.
Slight wear, but overall good condition.
A heritage seat.
