Full-length Sculpture Of A Handsome Man, Created By The Sculptor Sollier Of Apt

Artist: Sollier D'apt (1810-1875)
A full-length sculpture of a handsome figure wearing a frock coat, holding a cane in his right hand and, like the emperor, with his left hand slipped into the opening of his collar; made of plaster (and wood for the cane), formerly patinated bronze-colored, created by the sculptor Sollier d’Apt, whose signature is engraved on the base along with a date that appears to be 1842.
Sollier d’Apt (Joseph Noël Éléazar), sculptor and architect, born and died in Apt (1810–1875).
A student of David d’Angers, he exhibited busts, bronze statuettes, and allegorical figures at the Salon between 1841 and 1843.
He is also known for having created two fountains in and for his city known as the “Children with the Dolphin.” He is also credited with the fountain in the village of Saignon as well as the monumental gilded bronze statue of Saint Anne that crowns the cathedral of Apt.
For this last work, Sollier created a plaster model of the statue, which he presented to the people of Apt. Also, given its material—plaster—and the traces of bronze-colored polychromy, it is quite possible that this statuette is also a model that the sculptor created for a monument honoring a prominent figure of the time, whom I unfortunately have not been able to identify, unless it is one of the statuettes—which in no way excludes the first hypothesis—that he presented at the Salon.
In generally good condition. The right arm was previously reattached.
