Polychrome And Gilded Carved Wooden Torchère Door, Louis XIV Period, Late 17th Century
A carved wooden torchère depicting a woman in antique dress, entirely gilded with gold leaf, wearing a delicately carved silver drape. On her head, she holds a bowl of gilded fruit surrounded by green foliage, surmounted by a pineapple, and in her hands, a wicker basket decorated to match the bowl. She rests on a small, violin-shaped tripod pedestal adorned with gilt garlands on a black background, terminating in three small claw feet. The original gold leaf gilding and polychromy are in very good condition (with some old polychromy repairs and a later pineapple). An elegant Louis XIV period piece with harmonious proportions and remarkable sculptural finesse, in a beautiful state of preservation.
