Carved Wooden Harp Signed "rémi à Paris", Louis XVI Period, 18th Century

Artist: Remy Maturin Francois
A thirty-seven-string, seven-pedal harp in delicately carved maple and spruce, signed "Rémi, Rue Tiquetone, Paris" on the soundboard. Louis XVI period, 18th century. The column is carved with geometric friezes and surmounted by a delicately carved female face surrounded by garlands of small flowers. The scroll is richly carved with foliate scrolls and a vine frieze. The soundboard is decorated with painted bouquets and wreaths of flowers. The base is made of patinated and black lacquered wood resting on four small wrought-iron feet. (Some old restorations.) Beautiful patina. Parisian work from the Louis XVI period. *Remy Maturin François, luthier and harp maker. Originally from Mirecourt. Established in Paris, rue Ste Marguerite-St Antoine, 1760-1775, and moved his workshops to rue Tiquetonne in Paris 1775-1790.
