"Gilt Bronze Clock, Empire Period "
A beautiful and elegant Empire period gilt bronze clock depicting Leda and the Swan. This Empire period gilt bronze clock features Leda accompanied by her swan, an emblematic mythological subject of the early 19th-century Neoclassical repertoire. The female figure, rendered with great modeling finesse, is draped in classical style, in a graceful yet protective pose, conversing with the swan with outstretched wings. The whole rests on a sober and balanced structure, characteristic of the Empire style, enriched with rich bas-relief decoration: palmettes, foliate scrolls, and a central motif with an antique effigy. The enamel dial with Roman numerals has a minor enamel imperfection, visible but discreet, and the clock is missing its bezel; these details have been taken into account in the presentation of the piece. The movement is in working order, and the clock retains its original pendulum, a guarantee of authenticity. The well-preserved gilding beautifully highlights the relief and lends the piece a high-quality decorative presence. A decorative and elegant clock with a mythological subject, typical of the Empire style, ideal for a classic interior or a collection of objects from the first half of the 19th century. Period: Empire, early 19th century. Material: Gilt bronze. Subject: Leda and the Swan. Function: In working order, with original pendulum.
