This piece is dated 1910 and signed.
On a deep red (sometimes black) field, typical of the Karabakh style, are three medallions with floral decoration.
They echo the style of French Savonnerie rugs with multicolored floral scrolls.
This densely knotted rug, with 360,000 knots per square meter, has a wool pile on a wool foundation, known as wool-on-wool. The colors are remarkably fresh, and the rug is in excellent condition for its age of 115 years.
Rugs made before 1925 are defined into five groups :
Kazakh, Karabakh or Shirvan, Kuban, and Dagestani. Rugs from the Karabakh region often have delicate patterns reminiscent of Persian rugs. Outside of this classification, there are also Ganja, Sile, and Varnish rugs.
These rugs are distinguished by their highly varied and imaginative geometric patterns. Sometimes, in the form of Stylized animal figures or geometric and architectural motifs.
This rug has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
